One's personality is both a composition and reflection, but if I have to choose one of them, I will choose reflection as the "self" is more important to me than "me". One's composition may change, walking across the cultural landscapes and climbing the social ladder but one's self is tied to one's reflections. The fun part is that reflections are not bound to "Time-Space" barriers ( it is not time-space) and respective mental constructs, which have grown so thick over ages, that they had reduced the image of humans to Sisyphus, rolling different sizes of boulders on hills of different heights.… As the name of this Blog indicates, knols are my perspectives on topics of interests, sweet/bitter experiences or just doodling :)

Roosters' Fight and Nihilism

One of my favorite observations from my childhood is to see the fight of roosters when they first meet. Even brother roosters fight with each other when they first meet. If you let them fighting, after a few rounds of fighting, they will start accepting each other and there will be rare fighting. If you keep them separate for few days and again let them meet, they will again start fighting....

It was not just my childhood observations of roosters but as I grew, I found the same observations among people and later on, when I started reading about history and philosophy, I found that even civilizations behave like roosters...........

Why I am bringing the issue of roosters' fight here? It is just recently, I come across new trends in philosophy that philosophers are trying to rethink about the meaning of life. I am happy about this. It is a timely realizations of wrong trends and serious mistakes that have been done in philosophy (The most serious one is to look for atomization of language)...........

One of the wrong trend in philosophy that was understandable if we look to them in the context of their development was the trend of nihilism. Nihilism didn't come from nowhere or just from imaginations but it came through a historical development........

Just like roosters, when a new social group originated in Europe out of sea trades with Asia and they got influence in European societies through their wealth, there were an expected rooster fight between traders (new social group) and Feudal Lords (traditional source of power). As Feudal Lords were getting legitimacy of their power and rule on society through church, the traders were in need of a new source of legitimacy and they found it in Greek philosophies thousands years old............

Those Greek philosophies were new ideas in those time of Europe and against the teachings of Church. As innovations and adaptations of technologies were the source of power of traders so the rooster fight between Feudal Lords turned into fight between fight of Church (Claiming representing God) and Science (Understanding Nature - Naturalist not Scientists at those times-)....

As Colonizations were bringing wealth and also providing lands for people who were previously had no land (working on lands of Feudal Lords), the traders (Colonizers) subdue church and Europe turned Secular. As people become wealthy because of Secularization and Science were changing the lives of people so "PROGRESS" and it's defender "Secularization" were the main meaning and purpose of life... It was the honeymoon stage for Greek Philosophy.....

This honeymoon stage finished when progress showed its ugly faces through Nationalist wars of WWI and WWII and also through Cold War and Active War between Socialism and Capitalism....

It was the turning time for philosophy as philosophers saw no refuge in both religion and Science... It was the time of denial and Nihilism..... There is no meaning in life........ Philosophers have given up and tried to escape and take refuge in abstract ideas, like atomization of language...... so they could remain safe of blames of putting lives of people at risks (Socialist revolutions and Fascism were the cause of deaths of millions of people)...............

Nihilism worked for a while but rise of Internet and globalization once again brought people from different civilizations and cultures, face to face....... the roosters' fight was expected.... Even before the rise of Internet (just by rise of globalization Samuel Huntington have predicted the roosters' fight and called it.... Clash of Civilizations.....

Adding to problem came from integration of global economy. The economic melt down in one country initiated a global economic melt down. Certainly, economic melt down is the opposite of progress. If economic welfare or "progress" is the only meaning for life then "economic depression" is certainly the negation of that meaning...............

Internet and economic depression is making philosophers to realize that people need their help. People are looking for meaning of life. Meaning of life couldn't based on things that is unpredictable like "economic welfare... though they are the main consumers of times...."

It is time to rethink life and philosophy and bring back meaning to lives of people so they could stand to suffering and losses that is part of life....................

It is not only Western Philosophy that is suffered from roosters' fight but Muslim philosophy suffered worst and even to death.... When Muslims expanded to new territories and cultures they come across, Persian, Indian, Greek and Roman Philosophies. The translation of Greek Philosophy inspired Muslim Philosophers but unfortunately it turned into roosters' fight. Some Muslim Scholars saw it as a threat to teaching of Islam (Misconception).... One of this influential Scholars.. Imam Ghazali succeeded to convince Turkish ruler (Ghaznavids) that it is threat and Turkish rulers started crack down against Philosophers and it turned to be deadly.....

I hope that roosters' fight that is called....Clash of civilization... subside and Philosophers start thinking globally and base their thought on real things to help people come out of age "Nihilism"................
